Eat, drink, sleep and celebrate at The Castle Inn

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

Just a stone’s throw away from the fascinating historical remains of Spofforth Castle, The Castle Inn is a modern British pub with accommodation. After an extensive refurbishment in 2016 the interior has been transformed to a high standard providing a number of drinking and dining areas, combining impressive contemporary design with traditional comforts, such as crackling open fires and invitingly comfortable chairs.

Owned by Malvern Inns, a longstanding small pub group who also have the ever popular Square and Compass at North Rigton, The Castle Inn doesn’t let the side down and offers the same level of warm hospitality alongside delicious food and a great range of wines, fine ales, continental lagers and cocktails. You can rely on them to provide the perfect backdrop for whatever you are seeking - Be it an intimate meal for two or a grand celebration to impress all of your family and friends. There are some new staff members who have brought fresh enthusiasm and experience to the team, including Head Chef, Liam Holuj, who has recently returned to Malvern Inns after a stint away at the successful La Feria Spanish tapas restaurant in Harrogate. Whilst front of house is new General Manager, Tom Marshall, who came to The Castle Inn from running a selection of boutique and bespoke hotels down in the Cotswolds.

There are 12 en suite bedrooms themed upon a number of castles throughout the UK including: Bamburgh, Balmoral and Windsor! Each room has a unique design with thoughtful details that will bring a smile to your face and make it a night away to remember. Picture retiring to your room after a long walk in the surrounding countryside followed by a hearty meal in the restaurant. You could relax with a soak in one of the roll top baths or invigorate yourself in a rainfall shower and have a snooze in a cosy bed, before heading back down to the bar for a freshly mixed cocktail.

There is plenty of room to host a meeting or event, with a choice of areas including a private dining room called ‘The Barn’ which will fit up to 25 diners, or for smaller gatherings you could opt for the ‘Horsebox’ which hosts up to 12 people. Both are beautifully decorated in a traditional theme with a modern twist and are fully kitted out with AV systems should you require them.

On sunnier days you can take advantage of the large summer dining terrace and grassy beer garden which are catered to via an outside bar and kitchen. If the weather is sunny but cold then check out The Yard area, decked out in bright colours and featuring a very useful retractable roof and large sliding windows for an inside/outside dining experience.

Freshly prepared food is served every day, starting with breakfast from 8am until 10am where you’ll find all of your morning favourites on the menu, including Eggs Florentine, Eggs Benedict, Smashed Avocado and the all important Full English (veggie option available).

The main menu is available from midday and is described as ‘Yorkshire European’ with tapas dishes and larger plates inspired by the flavours of Europe whilst using only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu is updated regularly and there are always daily specials to tantalise your taste buds.
