The Manor House Harrogate care home on Cornwall Road in Harrogate is home to Chef Manager, Paul Richardson Mackie, who recently won Anchor Hanover’s prestigious 2020 Chef of the Year competition.
Although the pandemic meant that there could be no in person competition this year, Anchor Hanover’s celebrated Chef of the Year Award was held through online submissions, in the form of videos and photos of the cuisine. Competition was fierce, with a total of 18 finalists from catering teams from care homes across England.
Paul’s menu was chosen with the help of residents at The Manor House Harrogate. His sumptuous dishes consisted of a mouth-watering braised blade of Yorkshire Beef with root vegetable puree, braised shallots, beef and horseradish croquette and potato and celeriac dauphinoise. Dessert was a delicious Apple and Blackberry Panna cotta, caramelised pear and white chocolate and vanilla shortbread.
Paul was very pleased with his win, saying: “I’m delighted to have won, I saw a lot of the entries and honestly they all looked wonderful. I’m astonished that I even placed among the finalists! I’ve always prided myself on working with my residents when it comes to my menus, so a lot of the credit should maybe also go to them!”
We take great pride in the range of high quality, seasonally focused and nutritionally balanced meals available to residents on a daily basis. Our meals are created, not just with a deep understanding of each resident’s specific needs, but with an awareness of the important personal role food plays in all of our lives.
Our colleagues work hard to ensure that a move into care is as easy as possible, as it’s appreciated that it’s an emotional decision for everyone involved. We know it’s the small things that can make a big difference to the people in our care, like taking time to have a friendly chat or sharing a joke.
The Manor House Harrogate care home has a range of facilities including a shop, fully equipped bar and a hair and beauty salon. Residents can catch up with neighbours, enjoy their own pastimes or simply relax and enjoy their surroundings.
The Manor House Harrogate is currently offering two weeks free* for new residents joining them on a permanent basis. They are available to answer any questions you may have regarding the first-class residential and dementia care that they provide.
