Après ski at The Orchard

Since opening its doors in 2019, Grantley Hall has become renowned as one of Yorkshire’s finest country house hotels. They have won a plethora of awards. These accolades are a testament to the standard of service and the exquisite luxury you experience, right from the moment you turn into their grand driveway. This five star hotel boasts 47 rooms and suites, five stunning bars, four restaurants, including Michelin-starred Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall, a beautiful Three Graces Spa and an Elite luxury gym.

Attention to detail is almost an understatement here. You can be forgiven for looking over the Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces to see where the music is coming from when you step out of your car. It’s actually been played from speakers dotted around the flowerbeds in the car park. Bespoke scents are assigned to different areas of the hotel. Staff are completely unpretentious, warm, fun and knowledgeable. If you’re lucky enough to be living the high life, I doubt you’d find anywhere better in Yorkshire, but you’ll also find local couples splashing out and treating themselves.

Regardless of status or spend here, staff offer the same warm, genuine welcome and service.

Their latest launch is an Alpine-inspired winter drinking and dining destination: Après at The Orchard. This season’s latest addition has an impressive menu of après favourites and winter cocktails, transporting guests straight to the slopes. We were lucky enough to be invited to their glamourous launch party in November which was hosted in collaboration with Moet & Chandon.

Arriving at 7pm, we were greeted with a cocktail. Canapes were served from 8pm enabling us to try a variety of dishes that you can expect at Après at The Orchard. These included; mouthwatering Buttermilk Chicken Slider with smoked cheddar, slaw and sriracha mayo. Chargrilled Locally Made Hickory Smoked Sausages with white cabbage sauerkraut, Russian dressing, gherkin and crispy onions. Slow Braised Beef Cheek Bourguignon with creamed potatoes, (which was beautifully tender and tasty) and lastly (but very much not least) Three Cheese Arancini with tomato jam.

If that isn’t enough to entice you, they also have boozy hot chocolate and melting Valrhona hot chocolate cake with malted milk chocolate sauce and homemade marshmellows. I hope I’m lucky enough to be able to return soon and try the Traditional Cheese Fondue (for two) with cured meats, ratte potatoes, cornichons, pickled onions and sourdough.

An unexpected twist of the evening took us downstairs into the glitz, glamour and grace of Valeria’s late-night champagne and cocktail bar. Grantley Hall describe this as ‘A den of old-world glamour and modern sophistication in an intimate and exclusive venue. The décor and design of Valeria’s champagne bar is reminiscent of the heady days of the 1920s when parties ended only when the sun came up’. I have borrowed their words as I simply couldn’t think of any better way to describe this opulent bar, which you’d most likely expect to find in central London rather than a luxury country hotel nestled in the Yorkshire Dales.

I highly recommend a visit to this new Alpine destination at Grantley Hall. Set underneath a beautiful sailcloth marquee, adorned with festive decorations, there are cosy blankets, twinkling lights, fur rugs, cosy armchairs and Alpine touches which ooze chalet chic. The Orchard is located on the west terrace which has breathtaking views of the beautifully manicured West Lawn towards the River Skell. Another outstanding offering in this beautiful setting. What’s not to love? This has to be on your ‘go to’ list this winter.
