Providing the highest quality in education

Living in an area that boasts a vast number of brilliant schools means we are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing which establishment our children should attend. To help make things a little easier we have put together a selection of three of the best primary and secondary schools providing the highest quality in education. Each has something unique to offer so we are sure you’ll find one to suit your family’s needs.

Gateways School

Gateways is a small non-selective independent school for children aged 2-18 years, offering education from Early Years right through to Sixth Form.

We are based on a single 16-acre site in Harewood village.

Our Nursery, Pre-Reception and Primary (Prep) school accepts boys and girls from age 2 through to Year 6 (age 10/11).

Gateways High School was traditionally a girls only environment, however in September 2019, our High School welcomed boys into Year 7. Over the next few years, our High School will become progressively co-educational, this means in September 2022 boys will be able to join in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Gateways is a small school as a matter of choice; our small classes ensure that every child is known individually and thrives as a result.

Come and see if Gateways could benefit your child at our annual Open Day on Friday 1st October.

To book a time slot, please register by calling Admissions on 0113 288 6345 or by emailing admissions@gatewaysschool.co.uk.

The Grammar School at Leeds

The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) is a leading coeducational independent school located in north Leeds. With pupils aged between three and 18, we can offer continuity through a child’s education, and pupils move to each new learning phase with confidence. Those joining us from other schools soon feel at home thanks to our friendly welcoming atmosphere, small tutor groups and buddy system.

In Senior School we teach under the ‘diamond model’, so children learn in single sex classes until GCSEs, while sharing form time and co-curricular activities. This leads to excellent academic achievement for our pupils, as well as personal development and learning that extends beyond the classroom with a wide range of creative, sporting, and intellectual activities.

Find out more about GSAL at our open doors on Friday 17 September from 9am to 12 noon (pre-bookings via gsal.org.uk only).

Queen Mary’s

Along with academic excellence, Queen Mary’s offers exceptional extra-curricular opportunities in a nurturing environment, for girls aged 4–16 and boys aged 4–7. Education is truly tailored to the individual at Queen Mary’s with personal tutors and a supportive environment. In 2021 almost 40% of GCSE entries were awarded 8-9s, all girls were offered their first choice sixth form and there are currently Old Maryans studying at Oxbridge.

Over 50 different activities are on offer each week including Gymnastics, Dance, Debating and STEM as well as outstanding Music and Choral provision. The Equestrian Centre, Art Studio, Swimming Pool and new Sports Facilities are extremely popular and Queen Mary’s pupils love to be adventurous with Canoeing, River Swimming and Climbing on site. Many girls choose to make Queen Mary’s their second home by flexi, weekly or full boarding.
