Bluebell is a small independent kids’ brand based in Boston Spa that makes luxury handmade dress-up items and rag dolls for little ones. Everything is designed by Rebecca Connell in her home based studio.
Rebecca says: “My daughter, Rose was the main inspiration when I started Bluebell. I wanted to make clothes and accessories for her that no one else had: things that were completely unique.
I studied Fashion at York college and went on to design womenswear for my own label, Rebekah Murphy. This is I when gained most of my manufacturing knowledge as I used to design and manufacture everything in-house.
“I feel I am still learning and exploring with each and every garment I make, I am so grateful for the excitement it gives me. I love being creative, and everything about the whole design process. Firstly I’ll have an idea in my head, then I’ll sketch it and then start experimenting with different fabrics. It usually takes a while before I get an idea exactly how I want it, but when that happens it’s so satisfying. It’s my absolute passion!
“I am obsessed with anything pretty, dainty or delicate. I try to incorporate fine intricate detailing into my designs, especially when I make my rag dolls! I love making tiny dresses with shawls and matching hair accessories. I also love to experiment with colour and I’m drawn to pink and turquoise. I also love pastels and metallics, anything that sparkles. I am constantly learning, evolving and being inspired as an artist and a maker. So much love and magic goes into each one of my creations.”
This summer Bluebell’s travelling boutique went to two children’s festivals, Deer Shed Festival in Thirsk and also Geronimo Festival in Chester. It was an amazing experience from start to finish, and Bluebell are already looking to book as many festivals as possible for the summer next year, they loved them so much. Bluebell can be found online and at carefully selected artisan markets and pop-up locations across Yorkshire. To find out where they will be next check out their website and socials.
